Proud to Serve: Attorney Ali Ratajczak Promoted to Captain in the National Guard
Ali Ratajczak always knew she wanted to serve her country. Having family members who had also served in different branches of the Armed Forces, it was the right thing to do. She chose to enlist in the Wisconsin Army National Guard as it allowed her to specifically serve the people of Wisconsin.
In 2009, Ali enlisted as a Private in the Wisconsin Army National Guard. Her first job was a Food Service Specialist, which lasted for six years before she went back to school to become a Paralegal Specialist, achieving the rank of Staff Sergeant. Ali graduated from Marquette Law School in May 2020, and began practicing at McCarty Law, all while still serving in the National Guard. She is currently assigned to Joint Force Headquarters in Madison with a focus on domestic operations matters, which involves the use of soldiers and airmen inside the state or country.
When the COVID-19 pandemic began, Ali was activated to state active duty. Guardsmen responded and filled unique roles within the community, administering COVID tests, contact tracing, administering COVID vaccines, and much more. Each one of these missions presented novel legal issues and Ali helped support various command structures conduct these missions legally.
Ali was activated for state active duty again during the Kenosha riots in August of 2020. During that time, she served as the brigade paralegal for the 157th Maneuver Enhancement Brigade. Her role involved conducting briefings on the Rules for Use of Force for the various elements going into the city to provide support to law enforcement and protect critical infrastructure.
In April 2021, Ali commissioned as a First Lieutenant with the National Guard, and became certified as a Judge Advocate in May 2022. Her promotion to Captain was effective in February 2023.
Although she has missed countless birthdays, weddings, anniversaries, and many hours of work due to her commitment with the Guard, Ali has no regrets and continues to proudly serve her fellow Wisconsinites.
