My legal practice…
Helps physicians and other health care providers and the companies they own.  My work involves contract drafting and review, analysis of regulations like HIPAA, Stark, and the Anti-Kickback Statute, and working with my clients to make sure they have proactive legal strategies that complement and support their business strategies.  My title role at McCarty is “Of Counsel” because I also serve as the Chief Legal Officer of NOVO Health, an organization that represents independent health care providers and helps them to contract directly with self-funded health plans offered by employers.  My work with the NOVO providers has given me considerable experience in value-based reimbursement programs and gives me a first-hand understanding of how legal issues intersect with the day-to-day operational challenges facing independent health care providers.

My family…
My husband Michael is also a lawyer and together we have three young children, a dog and a cat.

What part of your job is your favorite?
Problem-solving.  I love sitting down with clients who have innovative ideas and helping them navigate the legal landscape.

What is your favorite activity when you are not at work?
I enjoy the water.  In the summer I often start my day with a paddleboard or kayak on Lake Winnebago.

What is one thing that you listen to, read, or watch that everyone should?
I enjoy the podcast the Tim Ferriss Show.  I enjoy hearing about the habits, ideas, and knowledge his guests have developed in a variety of fields and how these can be applied across industries and in personal pursuits.

What is the last book you read?
I typically listen to more than one audiobook at once.  Recent “reads” (I listened) I have enjoyed include Blue Ocean Shift by W. Chan Kim and Renee Mauborgne and The Obstacle is the Way by Ryan Holiday.

My favorite part of working at McCarty Law is…
The people.  Like me, McCarty originated in Kaukauna, where I admired its attorneys when I was a young student considering a career in the law.  The team of lawyers and staff at McCarty are talented, genuine, community-oriented, and have a sense of humor.  They are the opposite of every classic lawyer joke, and that’s a good thing!
