Get to Know Us: Attorney Mike Curry
Where do you live?
Appleton
Where are you from?
Appleton
My legal practice…
My practice focuses on commercial and personal litigation. I have represented clients in a variety of matters, including commercial litigation, product liability defense, personal injury, as well as probate and estate disputes.
My practice provides opportunities to learn about new businesses, products and people. Every case opens my eyes to something brand new.
My family….
My wife, Cassie, and I live with our golden retriever, Franklin.
Cassie and I met at Appleton East High School, attended UW-Madison together, and returned to Appleton together. She works in Development at Lawrence University.
Franklin moved in with us 7 years ago. He doesn’t have a job, but we love him anyway.
What are three things you do every day?
- Make French press coffee.
- Meditate.
- Walk Franklin.
What is your favorite activity when you are not at work?
Cassie and I love seeing live music everywhere from huge venues to our friends’ living rooms and I rarely miss a chance to cheer on the Badgers, Packers, Brewers or Bucks in person.
What is one thing that you listen to, read, or watch that everyone should?
“Revisionist History,” Malcolm Gladwell’s podcast. In each podcast, Gladwell reinterprets something from the past: an event, a person, an idea. He explores everything from shooting free throws to educational policy, sudden automotive acceleration to French fries. Each show seems strange at the beginning and is fascinating by the end. Gladwell’s perspective is always engaging. Seriously, I love this pod.
Where is your favorite place in the world?
Velvet Lake, Rhinelander, WI.
What is the last book you read?
I can’t answer with one, I’m always in the middle of at least three. I love to read and listen to audiobooks. Some recent favorites are Bad Blood, by John Carreyrou, Playing the Enemy: Nelson Mandela and the Game that Made a Nation, by John Carlin, and Big Game: The NFL in Dangerous Times, by Mark Leibovich. Right now, I’m in the middle of Lincoln in the Bardo, by George Saunders. It’s weird and sad and excellent.
My favorite part of working at McCarty Law is…
The people. It’s a privilege to work with my colleagues and our clients to find innovative solutions to challenging problems. We work hard, but we take time to share stories, lunches, and laughter together.
